In the summer of 2024, the Green Mountain Center for Sustainability offered a 3-day Compost Academy workshop. Targeted to garden educators, STEM/STEAM teachers, college students, and individuals interested in composting, the cohort's learning goals were to be able to:
- Define compost and composting
- Identify and describe the benefits of compost on soil, plants, and the climate
- Compare the differences between various scales of composting
- Describe educational opportunities for composting in schools
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic scientific principles of composting and their application
- Recognize and use best management practices for small-, school-, and community-scale composting
- Design a composting project tailored to their specific needs and interests
Our education department approved the non-credited Academy to have participants receive professional development hours for their time.
