In Fall of 2019, Prescott College welcomed students, faculty, and staff from Green Mountain College and created the Green Mountain Center for Sustainability at Prescott College in order to integrate lessons from a national leader in sustainability education into the Prescott College community. Academic programs from Green Mountain College are now available at Prescott College which include MS in Resilient and Sustainable Communities, MS in Sustainable Food Systems, MS in Environmental Studies, MBA in Sustainability Leadership, and BA and BS in Sustainable Food Systems. These programs emphasize immersive and experiential learning through course offerings in water catchment projects, gardening, composting, undergraduate and graduate capstone projects, and sustainability club activities. Many professors and students from Green Mountain College have taken on leadership roles in sustainability initiatives at Prescott College.
The Green Mountain Center for Sustainability at Prescott College serves students, alumni, staff, local citizens, and an online audience by promoting learning through the development of practical solutions for increasing community sustainability. The Center integrates Green Mountain College’s award-winning approach to sustainability education with Prescott College’s rich history of leadership in environmental studies and social justice. By building learning communities through events and programs, facilitating connections among stakeholders, and sharing resources, the center cultivates the skills and knowledge needed to create a more just and sustainable society.

Second Point of Distinction
Sustainability Coordinator AmeriCorps VISTA
A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:
In Fall of 2020, Prescott College developed an AmeriCorps VISTA position to serve as Sustainability Coordinator for Prescott College, which was voiced as the #1 priority for sustainability by students. The creation of this position is significant because it is the first full-time staff position at the college dedicated to sustainability assessment and improvement. The first person to hold this position created virtual opportunities for students to remain connected and engaged with sustainability during the start of the pandemic. The Sustainability Coordinator successor has been guiding the STARS self-assessment process so that Prescott College completes its first STARS report in over a decade.

The Frantz Fanon Community Strategy Center
A brief description of the third program/initiative/accomplishment:
The Frantz Fanon Community Strategy Center is a community organizing and mobilization project devoted to popular education, advocacy, and organizing. The FFCSC is a space for students of color at Prescott College as well as Northern Arizona community members to organize around issues vital to their respective communities. The Fanon Center is a hub for ideas and organizing projects that resist against and critiques colonialism, neocolonialism, and neoliberalism.
