Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
The Pratt America Reads Program - Goes Green

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

We developed a public/private partnership in which we converted a Pratt America Reads Program into the Pratt America Reads - Goes Green Program.
The program sent Pratt student tutors out into about 35 local K - 8 public schools to help improve reading scores.
We used 'green' topics such as gardening, healthy eating, energy and water practices and global warming as part of the initiative. We held several 'Sustainable Spelling Bees' with attendance in the audience of about 500 people.
We held The America Reads Costumed Readout and Green Expo once per year for about 5 years.
The last 2 years we had annual event attendances of approx.2000, k-8 students, teachers and parents. In the summers, we had 6 week sessions where students learned reading and math skills from campus projects. One very successful project was map making -focus the campus.
