A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
Pratt is the only East Coast art school with an enclosed campus. Located 20 minutes from Manhattan, the Brooklyn campus features twenty-five acres of tree-lined bricked roadways, grassy areas, five residency halls on campus, and outstanding facilities that offer students plenty of "green space" in which to work, relax, and spend time with friends. Check out our campus visit page to see at which campus each program is housed.
Undergraduate residence halls include Stabile Hall, Pantas Hall, Willoughby Hall, and Ryerson. Grand Avenue is Pratt's graduate residence hall. Pratt houses over 1500 students on campus.
The Athletic Resource Center provides students with an exercise facility, a large gym for tennis, basketball, and indoor track, and dance studios as well as the opportunity to participate in varsity sports.
Pratt boasts the oldest continuously-operating, privately-owned, steam-powered electrical generating plant in the country. In the East Building you can see the steam turbines along with a collection of other Brooklyn memorabilia and talk with Conrad Milster, Chief Engineer and steam aficionado. You can learn not only about steam-generated electricity but also about all sorts of steam-powered vehicles from mini-trains to giant ocean liners. If you're around on New Year's Eve or Pratt Graduation, you can hear the great whistle blasts from Conrad's collection of steam whistles. Pulling the lever on the whistle from the U.S.S. Normandy and being enveloped in steam is an experience not to be missed. You can try out railroad locomotive whistles, lake and riverboat whistles in addition to the blasts from major ocean liners.
Pratt's Brooklyn Campus Library is located in the neighborhood of Clinton Hill, in a handsome 1896 landmark building with interiors by the Tiffany Glass & Decorating Company. Collections and services are focused on the visual arts, architecture, design, creative writing, and allied fields. Additional materials of general interest support the general education curriculum. The Brooklyn Campus Library houses more than 200,000 volumes of print materials, including 600+ periodicals, rare books, and the college archives.
Building for Student Services and Academic Use: 524 Myrtle Avenue is a LEED Gold, Administrative and Academic Building housing financial aid, admissions, the bursar's office, and the registrar's office in addition to Human Resources, Development, and the Digital Arts program. This building was built to the new green LEED standard and has solar panels, a green roof, water efficient fixtures and landscaping and native plantings. Pratt is committed to a more sustainable future and is engaged in multiple efforts reflecting that commitment.
