In the spring of 2018 a student conducted a study of bird species on campus and their abundance as well as where on campus the avian abundance and bird species diversity was the greatest. Additionally, review was the vegetation on campus. This was all to help inform best practices for landscape management on campus.

The study found that there were 21 native avian species (most widely were American Crow, Dark-eyed Junco, and Song Sparrow). The study also looked at the campus canopy cover at street intersections, finding on average 26.5% canopy cover. Surface coverage was found to be at 69%.
