A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
Sustainability table is present at all student orientation sessions, and the SSC program brochure is also included at the Student Activities and Leadership Programs table. The video shown to all incoming students includes information about transportation options, connecting with Portland and PSU's commitment to diversity. We also host a variety of sustainability events during New Student Week (Viking Days).
During New Student Week (Viking Days), the Student Sustainability Center, Campus Sustainability Office and other campus organizations host a variety of sustainability events. In fall 2018, these events included:
- Student Sustainability Center Open House
- Campus Sustainability Tour
- Day of Service event in partnership with Student Community Engagement Center
- Farmers Market Tour
- Reuse Pop Up
Other orientations initiatives:
- Sustainability information provided in all resident move-in packets
- Sustainability information included in all campus tours
- Sustainability resources and information included in student planner
Each September, sustainability programs host tables at PSU's annual Party in the Park. This event is held during new student week and exposes incoming students to student groups and departments. This event is generally very effective for our programs.
We also provide composting at this event through PSU Recycles! The green bins make a great statement and expose new and returning students to our composting options.
