A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):
Sustainability table is present at all student orientation sessions, and also at the Student Activities and Leadership Programs table. The video shown to all incoming students includes information about transportation options. We also host a variety of sustainability events during New Student Week (Viking Days), and sustainability tours are available through orientations throughout the year. We also host a variety of events at Viking Days - PSU's new student week. Examples of events include garden work parties, movie showings, tours, and tabling. Each September,PSU Sustainability has a variety of tables at our annual Party in the Park. This event is held during new student week and exposes incoming students to student groups and departments on campus. We are able to provide similar resources to students as at orientations. This event is generally very effective for our offices. We also provide composting at this event through PSU Recycles! The green bins make a great statement and expose new and returning students to our composting options. During New Student Week (Viking Days), the Student Sustainablity Center and Campus Sustainability Office offers a variety of events. In fall 2017, these events were: - Native Plant Walk and Talk - Campus Sustainability Tour - Garden Work Party - Hanger and Mug Runner give away for new students moving into residential halls Other orientations initiatives: - Sustainability information provided in all move-in packets - Sustainability information included in campus tours - Sustainability resources and information included in Student Handbook (student planner)
