6.1 Support for students from underrepresented groups

Accessible Ed & Disability Resources leads the PCC community to recognize disability as a valued aspect of diversity, embrace access as a matter of social justice, and promote universal design and inclusive environments. Among the programs is the Disability Cultural Alliance, a group that promotes a welcoming environment for students of disabled experience to build community, find resources, and discuss their access needs.
Trio SSS is a college success program with dedicated services for TRIO students. Trio supports students who identify with being a first generation college student, a student with a documented disability and/or being a low-income student.

The Cascade, Rock Creek, Southeast, and Sylvania Multicultural Centers were founded to address institutional racism and the unique needs of students of color at PCC. The Multicultural Centers support the academic achievement, leadership development, and advancement of students of color at PCC.
The Multicultural Centers are centrally located on each campus to provide a safe space that nurtures learning and the achievement of personal and educational goals through cultural enrichment, peer tutoring, mentoring, and leadership activities on campus.

The Portland Community College Queer Resource Centers provide advocacy, education, leadership development, programming, and retention services for students with marginalized genders and sexualities to create an inclusive and intersectional campus climate promoting gender justice, sexual liberation, and equity for all people. Each campus (Cascade, Rock Creek, Southeast and Sylvania) has a centrally located safe space.

The College Assistance Migrant Program, referred to as CAMP, is a federally-funded program designed to support students from migrant and seasonal farm worker backgrounds during their first year in college. The program provides students with both financial assistance and support services, with the goal of preparing them to continue their education at a four-year college or university.

The PCC DREAMers Resource Center provides a safer space for our students regardless of their immigration status/DACAmented community. This space is for students to achieve their academic, personal, social, cultural, and spiritual goals through the resources provided, gain leadership skills and receive financial and legal support.
PCC's Legal Resource Center also provides free legal services including help around housing relief and immigration justice.

PCC’s Women’s Resource Centers (WRCs) apply the principles of intersectional, multicultural feminism to resist and dismantle sexism, racism, and other forms of oppression in order to support the success of all women and gender minority students.
The WRCs offer
- personalized help entering, staying enrolled in, and/or exiting college
- support navigating campus and community resources
- events, workshops, clubs, and projects related to social and gender justice and student success (stress relief, healthier relationships, safer sex, etc.)
- connection with other students and staff/faculty
- menstrual products and safer sex supplies
- coffee/tea and various snacks
- a comfortable space for folks of all genders to exist
- a friendly space for student-parents and their children;
- and more!
The Veterans Resource Centers (VRCs) are open and welcoming spaces that support all students at PCC. We focus on providing veteran and military-affiliated students, their families, and the surrounding veteran community with events, advocacy, resources, programming, and cultural engagement virtually and on campus. PCC maintains four campus diversity councils to advance individual campuses towards a more inclusive and rewarding environment. The charge of the campus diversity councils is to:
- Establish annual and long-term diversity goals for the campus.
- Promote diversity through events on campus.
- Review the campus climate.
- Hold PCC as an institution accountable for making continued progress towards diversity.

The PCC Queer Resource Center has many programs where faculty, staff and the community frequently get involved. One popular event is the annual the Portland Pride parade. The Queer Resource Center also maintains the PCC Outlist, a list of faculty and staff who identify as queer or as allies. This list helps students to find mentors while allowing others to give back to the community.
