PCC Green Teams are self-organized groups of employees committed to advancing sustainable practices in their office, department and/or building. These sustainability champions recognize the importance of staff and faculty commitment in order to meet the college’s progressive sustainability goals.
Green Teams meet about once a month to connect and celebrate their accomplishments, reflect on shortcomings, and share ideas. These meetings also serve as a platform for collaborative education, community building, and innovation.
A brief description of how the employee educators are selected:
All interested staff participate in the Green Team program. Participation varies among campuses. For example, at Rock Creek, participation is mostly from administrative assistants. At Southeast, more faculty are involved. The main goal of this program is to spread sustainability education and awareness within the various college offices, promote eco-friendly practices, and coordinate sustainability outreach and events. Participation is optional so that those participating are genuinely interested in spreading sustainability awareness and promoting overall sustainability at PCC.
A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:
Green Teams meet with sustainability staff at varying intervals for approximately an hour. During these meetings, admins learn about various initiatives, receive resources, and get help with any issues or push-back they are receiving within their offices.
A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):
Sustainability staff dedicate time to promote and advance the program. Sustainability staff coordinate the meetings.
