A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:

PCC Rock Creek has established a memorandum of understanding with Terra Nova high school, an option school within the Beaverton School District, allowing students to grow produce onsite to further funding for their program.

Partners for a Sustainable Washington County Community (PSWCC) is a coalition of ten Washington County governments working together on sustainability. The agency researches sustainable practices for Partners, facilitates collaboration between Partner organizations, and develops sustainability education and training for the Partners and the Washington County community at large.

The PSWCC was formed as a result of a January 2007 community summit on sustainability. The summit resulted in a consensus for the need to coordinate sustainability efforts across Washington County. On September 2008, an intergovernmental agreement was signed between the Partners to create the PSWCC. In May 2009, the agency hired its first coordinator and started programming.

The group currently consists of the County, the cities of Banks, Beaverton, Cornelius, and Hillsboro, as well as Clean Water Services, Portland Community College (PCC) Rock Creek, Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District (THPRD), Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue (TVF&R), and Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD).

Community Environmental Services (CES) is a research and service unit within the Center for Ur ban Studies in the College of Urban and Public Affairs at Portland State University. In 2010, PCC began a partnership with CES to complete PCC’s 2012 GHG inventory, which included information regarding the impact of our supply chain emissions. Additionally, CES has been instrumental in creating a guidebook to complete a GHG inventory at PCC. This guidebook was completed in May 2013.

PCC also has an ongoing relationship with the Greater Portland Regional Center of Expertise (RCE), and organization committed to supporting education for sustainable development through collaborative partnerships. One project PCC and RCE have collaborated on this year is the World Environment Day celebration event.
