Part 1. Student commute modal split
Total percentage of students that use more sustainable commuting options as their primary mode of transportation:
A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
97% of students live on campus. For the small number of students who live off campus, a student commuter survey is distributed to all students who live off campus in the spring semester. It asks about modes of transportation to campus from the previous week, distance from campus, and vehicle make and model. The results of this survey are used to calculate commuting percentages.

Pomona College distributes the South Coast Air Quality Management District's "Rideshare Survey" to faculty and staff annually. Respondents supply their commute distance and daily mode of transportation for a specific week in the spring semester. The results are assumed to represent average commute before and are extrapolated to the campus population.
