A brief description of the sustainable food and beverage purchasing program:
Pomona College recently transitioned from contract food service to self operated dining facilities. One of the primary reasons for this change was to ensure that the College could offer students, faculty and staff food that is not only appetizing and nutritious, but also sustainability and ethically produced. The new management team includes a newly created position focused on sustainability: the Sustainability and Purchasing Coordinator. During their short time in operation, the new team has started sourcing primarily humanely-raised and antibiotic free meat, local and/or organic hand fruit, fair trade organic beverages, locally-made ice cream and bagels, and many other local and/or organic items.
