A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
The Service aux étudiants de Polytechnique (Polytechnique Student Services) has several advisors dedicated to international students and advisors for students with disabilities. They are available for consultation and offer support and advice. Students with disabilities are followed through their entire study program. Every fall, a cultural workshop is made available for international students to help them with their integration in Quebec (it includes advice for their student life on campus, life in Montreal and in Canada in general).
With the strategic plan Poly2023: Let's create the future, Polytechnique Montréal is committed to guarantee equal opportunities for all and to increase the proportion of women and people from underrepresented groups in engineering, in order to ensure succession and to shape the teams of tomorrow.
Since 2017, Polytechnique has a Diversity and Equity committee composed of professors, managers and HR advisors to work on ways of attracting more women, visible minorities and persons with disabilities among faculty members, particularly among the research centers and chairs. A first action plan was adopted in 2017 to set targets for the Canada Research Chairs, the new action plan was adopted in September 2019 and aims to increase the representation of 4 underrepresented groups : women, visible minorities, disabled persons and native people.
The engagement of Polytechnique towards equity, diversity and inclusion led to many developments in the last few years :
- Since July 2019, Polytechnique Montréal subscribes to the Dimensions Program Charter. "Dimensions: equity, diversity and inclusion Canada invites [institutions] to take part in a post-secondary transformation to increase equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and help drive deeper cultural change within the research ecosystem. The pilot initiative is supported by the three federal research granting agencies". https://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/InterAgency-Interorganismes/EDI-EDI/Dimensions_Dimensions_eng.asp

- Since November 2019, Polytechnique has a dedicated advisor to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion responsible for the implementation of Polytechnique Montréal’s EDI strategy, providing guidance, support and thought leadership to promote a culture of equity, accessibility and inclusiveness across campus.
- In February 2022, the Policy on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion was adopted. There is now an Advisory Board and a Working Committee.
