Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level:

Polytechnique, through its president, requested more flexibility in the Quebec Experience Program reform. The program helps international students to have access to education in Quebec or for professors to come work at Polytechnique Montréal. The main benefit of the program is to be able, if selected, to settle in Quebec permanently. In July 2020, the Government reform changed the rules of this program, including for those who were already in the process which, in the eyes of Polytechnique Montreal, was not fair. Polytechnique then advocated for more transparency from the Government of Quebec and for easing measures. This reform threatened the education plan of the international students already in the program and the recruitment process of new professors. This recruitment is vital to maintain Polytechnique activities (education and research) considering the growing needs.

Does the institution advocate for public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability at the national level?:
Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the national level:

Polytechnique Montréal recently responded to a call from the federal government, launched last spring through the mobilization document "Building The Canada We Want In 2050", by submitting to Infrastructure Canada a brief entitled "L’ingénierie au cœur des infrastructures durables” (Engineering at the heart sustainable infrastructure). As part of the “National Infrastructure Assessment” for Canada, the Canadian government was seeking feedback on three key priorities: assessing Canada's infrastructure needs and establishing a long-term vision, improving coordination between infrastructure owners and donors, and determining the best ways to finance infrastructure. In its brief, Polytechnique Montréal also makes a series of recommendations regarding new infrastructure projects and maintenance projects for the built environment in Canada. In particular, it proposes a review of the governance model and a sustainability review for infrastructure projects, a clear definition of the objectives of each project with the use of indicators, as well as the adoption of a responsible procurement strategy.
