Has the institution presented at a higher education sustainability conference during the previous year?:
Yes

A list or brief description of the conference(s) and presentation(s):

Dr Louise Millette - Associate Professor Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering, Patrick Cigana - Sustainability Advisor and Alexandre Courchesne - Research Associate all from Polytechnique Montreal presented at the GCSHE - Global Conference on Sustainability in Higher Education in 2021 with a presentation entitled "Life Cycle Analysis in Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting : Capturing the Whole Picture". Polytechnique Montréal produced what we believe is the most comprehensive carbon footprint reporting of any higher learning institution by using a life cycle analysis (LCA) approach. To our knowledge, no other institution of higher learning has used LCA approach to evaluate and report their GHG emissions. Not only does this approach help include a broader range of emission sources, but by allowing for various types of data input, it can be a useful tool for institutions where physical data is less readily available – because financial usually is. Therefore, we feel the approach can open the door to smaller institutions, who may have felt awestruck by the immensity of the task of calculating their GHG emissions.
