P.I.E.D. Program ($60,000 internal subsidy) - Research Start-up Grant Program for new Professors. Given the evolution of Canada’s research environment (increased competition for funding, multi-institutional and multidisciplinary research, industry-university programs, ethical considerations, major institutional initiatives in targeted fields, etc.) Polytechnique seeks to offer the best support possible to its new researchers. This program aims to help in four ways: mentorship, to establish an integration and outreach strategy as well as a launch strategy, and finally, developing a research start-up plan. In this plan, positioning of considered research work needs to be presented, as well as how their research fits into Polytechnique Montréal’s institutional research plan, and into the research priorities of the federal and provincial governments.

Polytechnique is also an active member of the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en opérationalisation du développement durable (CIRODD, Interdisciplinary Research Centre on the Operationalization of Sustainable Development). As of June 2022, CIRROD center has 14 universities, 4 CEGEPs (General and Vocational Colleges), and 24 research chairs from Quebec as members.

Recognition of interdisciplinary, transdisciplnary and multi-disciplinary research

Has the institution published written policies and procedures that give positive recognition to interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary research during faculty promotion and/or tenure decisions?:
No

A copy of the promotion or tenure guidelines or policies:
The promotion or tenure guidelines or policies:
Without having explicit guidelines or policies, the Convention collective APEP (Collective Agreement for professors) stipulates that the Promotion Committee takes into account its professoral tasks and duties. Among them, it is stated that professors have to engaged in various activities including "inter-university cooperation", "contribution to the administration of a section, department, institute, center, group or research laboratory", and "professional contribution in the scientific field and the professional field" such as participation in
activities of learned societies and professional associations, work with provincial, national or international scientific research committees". Furthermore, the Institutional Research Plan states : "In keeping with its historical role in the economic development of society, Polytechnique wishes to meet the major challenges of the future by training highly qualified personnel, by pursuing interdisciplinary research work in synergy with its milieu, and by relying on its community as a developmental engine. To accomplish this, Polytechnique advocates pursuing multidisciplinary research and development (R&D) activities with numerous partners using a collaborative and synergistic approach. These collaborations maximize intellectual, economic, environmental, and societal impact; Polytechnique integrates the above into all of its R&D activities, and its spheres of excellence reflect this vision."
