Polytechnique owns a very small amount of vegetalised land (the remaining of the campus in which Polytechnique is located belongs to and is managed by Université de Montréal). The footprint of buildings represents 2.08 hectares. The parking, roads and sidewalks represent 2.36 hectares.

Polytechnique does not use any herbicides or pesticides on its managed lands. This is an obligation that stems from being located on Mount Royal, a protected site. The lawn is merely mowed.
