Student Sustainability Research Incentives

Yes

A brief description of the student research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:
Since 2015, the Trottier Scholarship Program (by Polytechnique's Institut de l'énergie Trottier - Trottier Energy Institute) has been aiming to encourage the training of a new generation of scientists and innovators with a systemic understanding of the technological, economic and social challenges our society faces on energy-related issues. It is intended for students from any of the three institutions of Campus Montreal (Polytechnique Montréal, HEC Montréal, University of Montreal) who are beginning a graduate-level program in a field of research compatible with the Insitute's mission, namely, the development of sustainable solutions to ensure the energy future of our society. Four scholarships are generally awarded each year. This number may vary according to the number and quality of the applications submitted. The maximum annual amount of the scholarship depends on the program: - Master's (research): $ 12,500 / year - Doctorate: $ 16,000 / year At least $ 5,000 must be supplemented by the research supervisor.

A brief description of the faculty research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:
Faculty staff members of the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en opérationalisation du développement durable (CIRODD, Interdisciplinary Research Centre on the Operationalization of Sustainable Development), a research center based at Polytechnique Montréal with members from 11 other Quebec universities, can apply for $ 5,000 grants. This grant program aims to support research in sustainable development related research themes by funding: - the establishment of new multidisciplinary and intersectional collaborations on topics related to the operationalization of sustainable development; - the implementation of pilot projects or the creation of work groups intended to generate preliminary data to facilitate the awarding of research grants from funding agencies; - the transfer of knowledge and know-how from research to industry, government departments and other public and parapublic organizations.
