Folie Technique is a nonprofit organization set up in 1991 through a student initiative. It is a summer camp offering participants the chance to immerse themselves in the world of science and engineering through creative, interactive, and accessible workshops offered in classrooms in underprivileged areas. In the last year, Folie Technique has reached more than 20,000 young people, hired about 40 science and engineering students, hosted 1,200 summer-camp participants, and reached 3,800 pupils through 200 workshops at elementary schools. Its Défi Poly (Poly Challenge) kit is used in more than 185 classrooms in 10 Quebec regions, and 50 classrooms have benefited from the Défi du Professeur Polynume (Professor Polynume’s Challenge). Folie Technique has also conducted a major robotics project with six elementary schools and developed an “entrepreneurial madness” summer camp for students in the last two years of high school. Together with Polytechnique, it held a 24-hour rally, Odyssée scientifique (Science Odyssey), for third- and fourth-year high school students; this activity included 12 science experiments. Folie Technique earned a 2015 Innovation award from the Association pour le développement de la recherche et de l’innovation du Québec (Québec Association for the Development of Research and Innovation).
