A brief description of the institution’s methodology for evaluating employee satisfaction and engagement:

Faculty: The COACHE survey was administered through the Harvard School of Education. The survey includes themes about: the nature of work, resources & support, interdisciplinary work, collaboration, mentoring, tenure & promotion, institutional governance & leadership, engagement, work & personal life balance, climate, culture & collegiality, appreciation & recognition, recruitment & retention, and global satisfaction.

Staff: The survey was developed and administered by an HR consulting firm, Mercer, consisting of 70 questions addressing and rating the areas of service/competitive position, communication, fairness & respect, performance management, satisfaction & commitment, teamwork & cooperation, rewards, empowerment & innovation, management leadership, personal & career growth, community/environment, operating efficiency/working conditions, and awareness/involvement.


A brief description of the mechanism(s) by which the institution addresses issues raised by the evaluation:

The issues raised in the surveys were directed for faculty to the Faculty Executive Committee to address in collaboration with the VP/Dean of Faculty, and the staff issues were directed to the Staff Council Representatives to address in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources.
