A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Founded in 2013, ReRoom is a student-led initiative that takes place during move-in and move-out. During move-out, ReRoom staff members accept donations from students, faculty, and staff, and store the items over the summer. Then, during the fall move-in, these items are offered for sale to incoming and returning students. In the most recent collection (spring 2015), ReRoom staff collected enough donations to fill four shipping containers. In the fall of 2015, ReRoom held three sales (one for incoming students, one a week later for returning students, and a separate book sale) and generated over $6,000 in sales. All unsold materials were donated to community organizations. While some funds are retained to enable the initiative to be financially self-sustaining, any remaining proceeds are transferred to the Pitzer Green Initiative Fund (PGIF), which is administered by students and provides grants to fund student projects that advance sustainability on campus. In the 2014-2015 school year, ReRoom contributed $5,000 to the PGIF.
