Does the institution have a formally established and active committee on investor responsibility (CIR) or equivalent body?:
Yes
The charter or mission statement of the CIR or other body which reflects social and environmental concerns or a brief description of how the CIR is tasked to address social and environmental concerns:
Penn State utilizes one Investment Committee – the Penn State Investment Council (PSIC), where all the members are appointed by the Penn State Board of Trustees. The investment objective for Penn State is to achieve long-term investment returns to facilitate an annual distribution of cash to support the University’s endowments for a perpetual period.
The Investment Policy Statement contains the following to indicate social and environmental issues are considered: “LTIP will be invested to achieve maximum return with an acceptable degree of risk. Within the context of its fiduciary responsibilities PSIC may take social and environmental considerations into account in the administration of the University’s investments.”
Penn State Investment Council (PSIC) views environmental and social issues that meaningfully impact economic issues.
It makes recommendations to fund decision-makers on socially and environmentally responsible investment opportunities and oversees the institution’s investments and now includes social and environmental responsibility as a regular part of its agenda.
