Penn State includes a Construction Waste Management requirement on all projects regardless of whether or not LEED certification is pursued. This requirement stipulates that the contractor recycle and/or salvage 75% of construction, demolition, and land-clearing waste. e-Builder, the project management information system, was adopted by Design & Construction at Penn State to manage most aspects of construction projects on campus and was fully implemented in July 2020. The waste data collection tool is a robust measure of waste collected and diverted across the University Park campus by contractors which they must use to report weights of diverted materials with proofs of where they were taken to before they are fully paid.
