This credit was marked as Not Pursuing so Reporting Fields will not be displayed.

NOTE: Although 9.3 % of Penn State's food and beverage purchases meet the criteria for certified organic or local and community-based products, we are unable to provide a comprehensive list of these products as required for this STARS credit, since some manufacturers do not wish this information to be made public. Therefore we have marked this credit as "not pursuing".

In addition, although the above percentage reflects STARS' new definition of "local and community-based", we feel that the current definition is too narrow. Purchases from large local companies and from those that use non-local ingredients still have the benefit of supporting local economies and reducing carbon emissions from transportation. It is not feasible for a large university such as Penn State to obtain a significant percentage of its food from small local companies.

The information presented here is self-reported. While AASHE staff review portions of all STARS reports and institutions are welcome to seek additional forms of review, the data in STARS reports are not verified by AASHE. If you believe any of this information is erroneous or inconsistent with credit criteria, please review the process for inquiring about the information reported by an institution or simply email your inquiry to stars@aashe.org.
