A brief description of the diversity and equity committee, office and/or officer, including purview and activities:
The Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Council focuses primarily on campus programs that further the goal of promoting and celebrating cultural diversity. Programs include speakers, films, and food festivals. The Council's formal Mission Statement is below. The council also maintains a Student Diversity Fellow, this paid position has been funded since 2016 and the student is employed during the academic year (September to May). The Council also sponsors a student Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Award which is given out annually during graduation in May. The Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Award seeks to recognize a student AND a faculty/staff member who display leadership in fostering diversity and Inclusion both on campus and within the surrounding community. The winner will receive a plaque at the Leadership banquet. Mission Statement: The Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Council will work for the promotion and celebration of cultural diversity within our community and to create a thriving, inclusive community.”
