The name of the campaign(s):
(1) Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility; (2) Pharos Uni-Print Solution
None
A brief description of the campaign(s):
(1) Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility: All graduating students are given the opportunity to take the Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility. The Pledge states, "I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of the choices I make in my daily life as well as in any job I consider. I will try to improve these aspects at home and with any organization for which I work."
During each cap and gown distribution event, a table is set up with information on the Pledge, and volunteers talk to the students about the Pledge and sustainability. Students receive a Pledge card which includes the website for the Graduation Pledge Alliance which has resources. Faculty and staff participating in Commencement may also take the Pledge to show support for its principles. Those who pledge wear a commemorative pin during Commencement, symbolizing (and serving as a reminder later) of the commitment they have made to make sustainable choices. http://www.pace.edu/greenpledge.
(2) Pharos Uni-Print Solution: University-wide student paper printing reduction software was implemented and promoted to students on all campuses. The software allows students to scan to email as opposed to printing on paper and has functions that are proven to reduce paper use. http://www.pace.edu/information-technology-services/services/printing-services/student-printing
This software is just part of the University's overall paper reduction campaign. Although an unnamed campaign, it includes feeding "scrap paper" back into printers (particularly in the libraries for draft print outs and at Document Services for printing receipts), incorporating 30% PCW recycled and 100% PCW recycled paper into Document Services stock for the Pace community to use, including computer labs, faculty and staff.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
(1) The students who take the Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility become educated about sustainability and the application of sustainable thinking and actions in the workplace and at home. 735+ students took the pledge in 2009, and more than 1300 students signed the pledge in 2010. The Pledge has a page dedicated to it in the University's Commencement printed program (printed on 100% recycled paper) which further promotes the Pledge to all Commencement students and attendees.
(2) University-wide student paper printing reduction software saved over 100,000 sheets of paper per semester in 2009 (and continues to do so). Details on the implementation were featured as a national case study with HP and can accessed for reading via link below on the "Recycling and Waste Reduction" page.
