The mission of the Office of Institutional Diversity is to design, plan, lead and implement, in collaboration with university partners, institutional change actions, initiatives and communications to advance diversity, equity and inclusion throughout all facets of Oregon State University. The work of the office advances more rapid progress toward Oregon State’s highest aspirations for social justice within the university community.

Diversity & Cultural Engagement (DCE) is a hub for out-of-classroom engagement to build community and support students' abilities to change the world. DCE's programs and initiatives seek out to enhance the student experience through:
-Student engagement
-Transformative learning
-Positive social change
-Academic success
-Identity development

DCE bridges differences and builds community through a variety of programs and initiatives:
-Mixed Beavs: Mixed Beavs is a network for multiracial, biracial, and mixed heritage students. Students connect, share resources, and meet faculty/staff who can contribute to their academic success.
-Social Justice Retreats: DCE partners with groups across campus to offer weekend-long retreats to promote campus dialogue about race and racism. The retreats engage in the active exploration of the concept of race and how race impacts our lived experiences and interactions.
-SOL: SOL is a student-fee-funded organization that focuses on Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC) while providing support through educational programming, student advocacy, and ally building among undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and other organizations at Oregon State University.
-AYA: AYA's mission is to facilitate long-lasting and dynamic support for Women of Color in all endeavors through facilitating interconnectedness within OSU and Corvallis communities and welcoming all people into spaces that allow for learning, growth, and healing.

The Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity also offers training around Affirmative Action, Americans with Disabilities Act and Sexual Harassment Prevention, Implicit Bias and many others. http://eoa.oregonstate.edu/training

Additionally, a Search Advocate program enhances integrity, effectiveness, and diversity in the university’s hiring practices. Search advocates are OSU employees trained as process experts in search and selection. They complete a series of workshops addressing current research about diversity and cognitive bias, the changing legal landscape in hiring, inclusive employment principles, specific steps to strengthen each stage of the search process, and effective approaches to participation on search committees in the advocate role.

Creating an Inclusive Community (CIC) is a short, online course delivered through Canvas, OSU’s learning management system. The purpose of CIC is to create a dialogue around the importance of being inclusive to all, such as respecting others’ viewpoints and experiences, and using active listening skills to learn more about fellow students and their perspectives. CIC is part of a series of courses designed to support student success, including a course that covers topics of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking and sexual harassment. All OSU students are required to complete this course.
