Sustainability committee(s)
Yes
The charter or mission statement of the committee(s) or a brief description of each committee's purview and activities:
The Faculty Senate Carbon Commitment Committee, composed of members from each of the Faculty Senate apportionment groups plus other OSU groups, supports the OSU Sustainability Office in advancing carbon emissions reduction and other sustainability work. The Carbon Commitment Committee has several work groups to develop projects in the following areas: Education & Curriculum, Conservation, Efficiency & Transportation, and Communication & Reporting. For example, in 2021-2022, the committee hosted a climate change-focused Lightning Talk event, submitted sustainability-focused feature stories to the university's digital media outlets (such as OSU Today and
college and departmental newsletters), and refined a carbon offsets program for OSU-funded travel. Previously, the committee created a Green Certifications program that allows offices, labs, and Greek organizations on campus to earn copper, silver, gold, and platinum-level certification for sustainability practices. The Carbon Commitment Committee aims to nurture a culture of sustainability across the OSU enterprise by optimizing institutional, individual, and community action.

Sustainability office(s)
Yes
A brief description of each sustainability office:
The Sustainability Office is the primary support organization for sustainability efforts at OSU, helping facilitate and manage projects, network on- and off-campus entities, and support student, academic, research and outreach efforts. The office is engaged in multiple partnerships with collaborative organizations such as Campus Recycling, Community Engagement & Leadership, and the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition.
The Sustainability Office was formed by the creation of a full-time sustainability coordinator in 2005. Another full-time position was created in 2008, as the university recognized the need for another staff member to focus on energy data acquisition and management.
While the office focuses primarily on campus operations, projects and initiatives by the Sustainability Office address multiple areas of sustainability. Student engagement is encouraged through experiential learning projects, such as: energy and water systems analysis, feasibility studies for green building elements, campaigns to promote cultural change, and policy impacts and development. The office is also making an effort to incorporate sustainability issues into academic programs by assisting departments to integrate sustainability into their curriculum.
The office is involved with many campus and community events where they inform the public about sustainability at OSU and encourage people to get involved.
The Sustainability Office engages in other ongoing activities including: overseeing conservation and renewable energy projects on campus; supporting campus departments and students in their efforts to become more sustainable; acting as a single point of contact for on- and off-campus inquiries; referring questions to proper campus experts in education, research, and Extension; representing OSU administration in sustainability endeavors; and networking stakeholders.
