A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):

Through OSU's Sustainability Advocates program, faculty and staff act as sustainability contacts and experts within their campus units, and often for adjacent campus units, by:
-Sharing information and training opportunities with fellow employees
-Networking with others interested in sustainability
-Promoting sustainability-related events within their unit and beyond
-Building sustainability culture, competence and capacity within their department
-Communicating needs, opportunities and best practices back to the OSU Sustainability Office
-Leading actions to make the unit more sustainable, such as with our Green Office and Green Labs certification programs.

Examples of outreach activities include:
- Sharing preformulated messaging from organizations like the Sustainability Office, Campus Recycling and Civic Engagement and Leadership
- Recruiting participants for professional development opportunities like WOHESC and AASHE conferences, and participating in these development opportunities themselves
- Hanging posters for events and programs like Campus Race to Zero Waste, Green Office Certification, etc.
- Forming teams of bicycle riders for Zap commute competitions
- Sharing PowerPoint slides at a staff meeting on a current sustainability campaign or event
- Recruiting Master Recyclers, more Green Office Certification participants, etc. from their unit and others
- Sending sustainability related materials through their departmental newsletter.

The Sustainability Office has provided funding to Sustainability Advocates for professional development opportunities like WOHESC, by covering conference passes and transportation to/from the event.

A brief description of all other employee peer-to-peer sustainability outreach and education programs:

OSU periodically uses Ecochallenge (Northwest Earth Institute) course materials and modules for employee training and education about sustainability, and encourages self-formed discussion groups based on Ecochallenge platforms. There is not a specific, institutionalized method for this training at this time so it is considered informal.
