Although not an organization dealing strictly with higher education, OSU is a member of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition, a network of organizations and individuals in Corvallis, Oregon. The Coalition formed in 2007 to bring together businesses, non-profits, faith communities, educational institutions, and government entities in the Corvallis area to accelerate the creation of a sustainable community - one that values environmental quality, social equity, and economic vitality.

OSU is a charter signatory of the Carbon Commitment and is also a signatory of the Billion Dollar Green Challenge.

OSU staff actively participate in the less formal Oregon higher education sustainability officers network, which meets 1-3 times per year in person and continues engagement between sustainability officers frequently via electronic means.

Alan Mix, a Distinguished Professor at the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, serves in The Oceanography Society Council. The Oceanography Society promotes the broad understanding of oceanography, facilitates consensus building across all the disciplines of the field, and informs the public about ocean research, innovative technology, and educational opportunities throughout the spectrum of oceanographic inquiry. The Council is The Oceanography Society’s governing body and is responsible for directing the affairs and determining the future of the Society.

The OSU Sustainability Officer serves on the Executive Committee and as Vice Facilitator of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition. The Coalition is a network of organizations and individuals in Corvallis, Oregon, who are working together to create a sustainable community. The Steering Committee guides the Coalition by setting overall policy, developing strategy, and overseeing finances.

A brief description of other inter-campus collaborative efforts around sustainability during the previous year :

The OSU Sustainability Office has helped plan the Washington & Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC), which brings together colleges and universities across Washington and Oregon. In 2019, the conference brought 625 attendees, 123 speakers, 32 sponsors and exhibitors, and 18 community partners.

As the longest serving sustainability officer within Oregon higher education, the OSU Sustainability Officer has made numerous presentations at community colleges, K-12 schools, hospitals and other organizations in Oregon and beyond regarding sustainability program development and sustainability-related best practices.

Additionally, a network of Oregon (and some Washington state) sustainability officers gather several times a year to network, discuss regional strategic priorities and bring together students from our campuses with similar interests.
