A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):

New student orientation at OSU includes three programs that include sustainability-related content. START is a summer two-day event preparing new students and their parents for the upcoming year. Welcome Week is held the week preceding fall term. U-Engage is a first quarter class for freshman that meets weekly.

Sustainability groups and resources are prominently displayed for students to learn how to get involved. Sustainability group display tables are staffed to welcome new students. A sustainability focused presentation and tour is offered to all students highlighting sustainability efforts on campus and opportunities for students to get involved. OSU's first year live on requirement serves to get more students actively engaged in orientation programming and are educated on recycling and sustainability efforts in the residence halls at START.

Welcome Week starts with campus move-in, geared towards undergraduate students, where volunteers are on hand to show new residents how to recycle and where additional campus resources exist. It is a crash course for students to learn how recycling, composting, and waste reduction works at OSU. The annual Sustainability Fair is a key event during first quarter, aimed for both graduate and undergraduate, where thousands of students gather and information is available at staffed sustainability tables and booths. Welcome Week also features a Morning of Service where students participate in community service opportunities on campus and throughout the city of Corvallis.

U-Engage classes focus on providing a good transition into college for first-year students and a better understanding of campus resources. Additionally, theses classes promote campus involvement and sustainable practices.
