A brief description of the assessment process and the framework, scorecard(s) and/or tool(s) used:
Oregon State University piloted and distributed the Campus Inclusivity Survey during spring term 2015. Students (undergraduate, graduate, international, transfer) as well as representatives from various academic departments, the Graduate School, and several Student Affairs departments collaborated to create the survey. The purpose of the survey was to gain perspective on student’s experiences of belonging, connection, and feeling included at the OSU main campus. The survey was organized into six themes: Communication, Accessibility, Support, Financial, Sexual Assault, and Representation. Themes were based on student focus group responses conducted with undergraduate, graduate, and international students during the 2014 fall term. The Oregon State University Registrar’s Office pulled a random sample of 4,000 OSU students who were then invited to participate in the pilot Campus Inclusivity Survey through an email invitation sent to their Oregon State ONID email accounts. This process has been updated with a new and larger group of stakeholders for a repeat release of the updated survey in Winter 2017. This survey and other input mechanisms have and will continue to inform the response from OSU leadership and diversity and equity staff in meeting the needs of the community. On December 7, 2015, President Ed Ray announced the hiring of a Chief Diversity Officer and the creation of the Office of Institutional Diversity to intensify the focus on attaining goals related to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice at Oregon State University. This new office will oversee institutional change actions, initiatives and communications on these vital issues throughout all facets of the University. The new position and office is intended to advance more rapid progress toward our highest aspirations for social justice in our community. This focus on institutional change will help advance Oregon State University to be a community characterized in all it does by inclusive excellence. Results are distributed widely through internal outreach mechanisms including the daily electronic newsletter, direct email communications to campus wide audiences and staff meetings with various groups. Additionally, results are used as platforms for ongoing internal planning and communications within various campus units.
