A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :
OSU is establishing in collaboration with Washington State University, the University of Idaho, the University of Montana, and Montana State University a Pacific Northwest Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate to increase the number of students from traditionally under-represented minority populations who complete doctoral programs and to facilitate their successful transition into faculty positions at US colleges and universities.
The Office of Human Resources at Oregon State University established the PROMISE program in 1992 in an effort to attract its own students of color to employment at the University, as well as state government. PROMISE is an internship program designed to provide professional, managerial, or technical paid work experience in state and local government agencies for Oregon State University juniors and seniors. The program's purpose is to increase the potential pool of applicants currently under-represented in state and local government agencies. Students of color are encouraged to participate in the program. http://oregonstate.edu/promise/
OSU also has a Tenured Faculty Diversity Initiative which is run out of the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. It provides funds to departments to support hiring faculty that support diversity at OSU.
