A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
National Network for Sustainable Living Education (NNSLE)
The NNSLE started at Oregon State University in 2004 as an effort to network and collaborate around sustainable living education. OSU Extension's Sustainable Living Project coordinator remains the organization's National Director.
The Network is unique in that it focuses on low cost solutions to sustainable living educational tool development, and not seek external funding to operate, only small requests to cover printing costs. To demonstrate financial sustainabiltiy, it thrives on low-cost in-kind support from Network members. Meetings are conducted through monthly conference calls, rather than costly travel. Many Network members have never met face-to-face.
The NNSLE was awarded the Association for Natural Resources Extension Professionals Innovative Program Silver Award in 2009, and an OSU Search for Excellence Award in 2005.
