Has the institution installed vending machine motion sensors for at least one vending machine?:
Yes

A brief description of the technology used:

Vending machines at OIT are provided and maintained by Quail Mountain Vending/Pepsi - a Klamath Falls company. Quail Mountain installed motion sensing devices at a number of machines on campus.

The sensing device uses a passive infrared occupancy sensor (PIR) to turn off the compressor and fluorescent lights in the vending machine when no one is around. In addition, a temperature sensor powers up the machine at appropriate intervals to keep the products cool enough.
