A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
OIT has implemented the Pure Pulse Chemical Free Water Treatment system to treat cooling tower water for the geothermal power plant. The Pure Pulse Treatment System, developed by EVAPCO, purifies water used in the geothermal power production plant cooling tower. This system uses a pulsed electric field to treat cooling water systems, thereby eliminating the need for chemical treatment. This elimination of harsh treatment chemicals is better for the environment. It also allows for blow-down or back-wash water from the power plant cooling tower to be filtered through a detention pond and out to the storm-water system versus into the sewer-treatment system. Bypassing the City of Klamath Falls sewer-treatment system saves OIT thousands of dollars annually.
