Innovative Practice: "Collecting Trash; -Sustaining Native Plants
SUNY Orange is actively involved in recycling not only traditional recyclables such as bottles and cans but also more non-traditional items such as chip bags, granola bar wrappers, used writing utensils and tape cores. Since 2009, the college has participated in various TerraCycle Brigades and has successfully promoted TerraCycle's "Idea of Eliminating Waste" concept. To date close to 20,000 pieces of packaging has been collected and sent to TerraCycle for recycling or up-cycling. The funds generated from the program is used to purchase native plants for the college's Educational Gardens.
