A brief description of the institution’s program to support employee volunteering:

HR oversees awards and recognition programs for non-academic employees. Through the PRAISE program, an employee can be recognized for making contributions on campus and this could be connected to an event that encourages campus community engagement i.e. there have been people that have received PRAISE in the past for their work with cancer research fundraisers. This is not a mandatory reason though for nominating someone. Each PRAISE recipient gets a certificate and a chance to win 100.00 MasterCard gift card. There are 3 draws per year for the gift card prize.

As per the Team Award, one of the criteria is “Team enhances the reputation of the University by directly or indirectly contributing to the community or the University which has a positive impact to the reputation of the University”. Those nominated get a plaque and are recognizes at a yearly event sponsored by the President. The overall winning team gets up to 1500 to spend on a celebratory event.

On a case-by-case basis, staff may be given voluntary leave/positive recognition to participate in community service activities (gardening, tree planting, volunteering their time at a local soup kitchen).
