A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to non-academic staff:

Sustainability is part of the Human Resource Professional Development program offered to employees. An annual session started in 2018 is the Sustainability 101 Skill and Tell training session where employees are trained to integrate sustainability knowledge and skills into the workplace and their daily life. Further sustainability related PD programs are underway. The Sustainability Committee with the Office of Campus Infrastructure and Sustainability offer experiential learning opportunities for employees and students to attend various sustainability related workshops and sessions in the summer and fall (relating to gardening, mental health, smart commuting and waste management topics).

Lean Management Certification Programs at Ontario Tech U
The program helps to educate and involve all employees in their organization’s efforts to improve process efficiencies and eliminate waste (http://mdc.uoit.ca/our-programs/lean-training-and-education/).


A brief description of any external professional development and training opportunities in sustainability that are supported by the institution :

Based on individual cases, departments fund training in sustainability by allowing employees to attend conferences and workshop.This can include sending the Asset and Sustainability Planner to attend workshops with The Ontario College and University Sustainability Professional (OCUSP); faculty attend sustainability related workshops, training and research presentations; and staff attend the Canadian Association of University Business Officers (CAUBO) which have sustainability related workshops. These training and PD are reimbursed by the institution along with a variety of other opportunities.
