Title or keywords related to the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Grey Water Collection, Reuse and Management

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

One of UOIT's water conservation efforts is a Grey Water Collection and Management system. The aquatic toxicology laboratory uses approximately 180,000L of fresh water per day. This water is supplied by the municipality in order to ensure high quality, low contaminant water. This water is further filtered for flow-through single use within the laboratory, following which it is then directed to a 250,000L underground cistern. This Grey water is then used within the university buildings for flushing toilets and urinals.

A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):

This systems along with the Storm Water Management System, state-of-the-art sensor controls and low flow water features throughout the buildings help UOIT save 32 million liters of water per year.
