University of Galway's commitment to health and wellbeing is assessed through the KeepWell Mark. University of Galway was awarded KeepWell Accreditation at Commitment Level in 2021. Over the lifetime of the University Strategy 2020 – 2025, we plan to elevate our accreditation from Commitment Level to Excellent Level.
The KeepWell Mark enables University of Galway to follow a set of clear and easy steps designed to make our workplace healthier and happier. The KeepWell Mark contains a set of 8 health and wellbeing standards which drives and nurtures best practice and high standards in supporting employees
The standards are:

- Absence Management
- Smoke Free
- Physical Activity
- Health & Safety
- Mental Health
- Healthy Eating
- Intoxicants

SMOKING RESTRICTIONS POLICY: To ensure the safety of NUI Galway staff, students and visitors, the University has in place a Smoking Restrictions Policy which is in compliance with the tobacco regulations and further developed in consultation with NUI Galway staff and students.
