Does the institution have an ongoing program that offers incentives for academic staff in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses? :
Yes

A brief description of the incentive program(s):

University of Galway has launched a training and support service to incentivise academic staff to develop sustainability courses and generally embed sustainability in their curriculum. The service includes a training course (CEL6109 Sustainability in the Curriculum - see below) which is free of charge, one-to-one training and support with two dedicated Lecturers in Education for Sustainable Development, and a suite of development tools, including SDG mapping software. Staff also receive access to the LinkedIn learning resource free of charge.

A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:

CEL6109 Sustainability in the Curriculum

This module aims to unpack the varying definitions and principles of the concept of sustainability and provides a space for participants to embed sustainability into their own teaching and learning practice.
Topics to be explored include pedagogical approaches for sustainability; teaching techniques for embedding sustainability into the curriculum; digital tools for embedding the SDGS into university modules; learning how to provide safer spaces for students to voice fears and anxieties about the climate crisis. Participants  of this module will be encouraged to apply their learning in their own subject area.

Other training available to staff:

The University is committed to staff professional and personal development and offers LinkedIn Learning for free to all academic and non-academic staff across campus. LinkedIn Learning has over 21,000 courses where staff learn at their own pace and select only the courses and videos most relevant to their learning journey. Courses include technical, business, software, leadership, personal health, mindfulness, and creative topics but with the sustainability focus on campus many of the sustainability related courses are popular amongst staff. To learn 24/7, staff just need to visit LinkedIn Learning and login with their University Campus Account credentials. When completed staff receive a certificate.
