The major function of the President's Advisory Committee is to advise the President and the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Equity and Diversity on programs, services, and policies affecting protected classes and inclusion efforts. Additionally, members serve as potential hearing panel members in accordance with the University’s Discrimination Complaint Procedure. Committee members are knowledgeable on the following: The University Discrimination Complaint Policy and Procedure; the Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedure; the Accommodation Policies and Procedures for Students, Faculty and Staff.

The Committee consists of representatives who serve as liaisons for their respective constituents of faculty, administrative faculty, staff and students from the following areas: Institutional Equity and Diversity, the Asian Advisory Council, Academic Affairs, Admissions, the Coalition of Black Faculty and Administrators (CBFA), Educational Accessibility, Faculty Senate, the Hourly and Classified Employees Association (HACE), Hispanic & Latino Employee Association (HLEA), Human Resources, Institutional Advancement, International Programs, Intercultural Relations, Public Safety, Student Engagement and Enrollment Services, Student Senate, University Relations, Women's Caucus, Women's Center and each College/Vice President area.

A brief description of the diversity office:
The office serves as the nucleus for all aspects of equity university-wide, including but not limited: equal opportunity, affirmative action, diversity, recruitment and retention, accessibility, diversification of curriculum, assessing the educational impact of diversity, and measuring the campus climate. It leads the efforts of the University community in the development and implementation of a vision and plans for advancing diversity as among one of the key facets of equity. Under the leadership of the Assistant Vice-President for Institutional Equity, this unit assists in expounding diversity issues to ensure inclusion of all members of the University community. It is responsible for implementing relevant policy, practices and programs toward the effective recruitment and retention of diverse members of the University workforce. The unit also provides consultation and programmatic support to address diversity issues involving students. Finally, this unit is responsible for providing training to the University community and beyond, by serving as a liaison to professional associations (at the local, state and national level) that promote diversity initiatives.

A brief description of the diversity coordinator's position:
This position reports to the Assistant to the President and Director of EO/AA and provides leadership in advancing the University’s diversity agenda through development of initiatives and execution of tactics, and ensures sustainability by integrating efforts into recruitment, retention, programming, succession planning, and ADA processes. Additionally, the position provides support for compensation review and AAP functions.
