A brief description of the sustainable food and beverage purchasing program:
Monarch Dining purchases food and beverage through Sysco Corporation, the largest foodservice distributor in North America. Sysco Corporation distributes frozen foods, various canned and dry foods, fresh and frozen meats, seafood and poultry, imported specialties, and fresh produce. Monarch Dining’s sustainable food and beverage purchasing program is determined by where Sysco Corporation’s vendors are located.
Vendors’ cities within a 250 mile radius from Old Dominion University include: Siler City, North Carolina; Mount Olive, North Carolina; Dudley, North Carolina; Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; Jessup, Maryland; Wyoming, Delaware; Baltimore, Maryland; Hunt Valley, Pennsylvania; Roanoke, Virginia; Norfolk, Virginia; Westover, Maryland; and Laurel, Delaware. Monarch Dining does have a commitment to increase level of sustainable food offerings, with a yearly growth goal of 5%.
