A brief description of the institution’s discrimination response protocol or team:

Oklahoma State University responds to and supports those who have experienced or witnessed a bias incident, act of discrimination or hate crime by implementing the OSU discrimination response protocol. This protocol is enacted when a report of alleged discrimination is shared with either the Vice President for Institutional Diversity or his senior leadership team or Human Resources.

Individuals who have experienced or witnessed a bias incident are supported through a variety of campus and community resources. OSU counseling services and appropriate university staff follow up with Individuals to offer support when they have experienced or witnessed a biased incident. Additionally, the following resources are shared: Student Counseling Center, Counseling Psychology Center, University Health Services, Reboot Center, Victim Advocate Officer, Office of Multicultural Affairs, International Students and Scholars, Student Disability Services, Student Conduct, Ombuds Office, Vice President for Student Affairs, Vice President for Institutional Diversity. Individuals are encouraged to contact any of these resources to speak with university staff for support and assistance.

Details: depending on the type of discrimination that is alleged, the protocol response can vary, but includes the following: obtaining knowledge of all individuals involved, an investigation into the concern, ensuring that due process is followed (staff, faculty, or student process), implementing and/or recommending sanctions for the individuals that have been found to violate applicable OSU policies or OSU community standards.

Staff or faculty that engage in a discriminatory action based on a federally-protected category may receive disciplinary action such as additional training, corrective action (up to and including termination), and/or loss of specific privileges.

The Oklahoma Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (OK-LSAMP) Program
OK-LSAMP is a consortium of Oklahoma colleges and universities working together to develop programs aimed at increasing the number of students from under-represented populations who receive degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The current goals and activities of OK-LSAMP focus on undergraduate research experiences, graduate school preparation, and international experiences.

OSU has over 70 diversity-related students, faculty, and staff organizations. In addition, the following programs are available at OSU: Inclusion Leadership Program, Four U.S. Department of Education TRiO Programs, Retention Initiative for Student Excellence Program (RISE), Oklahoma Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (OK-LSAMP) Program, NSF Bridge to the Doctorate Program, Office of Multicultural Affairs Mentoring and Retention Program, First 2 Go (first-generation student living-learning program), Critical Conversations Diversity Program Series, National Veterans Entrepreneurship Program, OSU Diversity Hall of Fame.

The mission of Diversity Academic Support (DAS) is to provide resources and opportunities for academic, social, and emotional growth. This unit is engaged in activities designed to help create a more inclusively diverse community of learners at OSU. DAS aspires to work with all individuals interested in promoting this work.

The Retention Initiative for Student Excellence (RISE) and the Inclusion Leadership Program (ILP) are among the initiatives set forth to accomplish these goals.

OSU offers several undergraduate diversity courses, minors, gender and women's studies, and cultural education centers.

Scholarships through the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) and are open to students attending the OSU-Stillwater campus. Each award is based on academic effort, campus and community activity, and financial needs. Award monies are disbursed evenly during the fall and spring semesters provided enrollment requirements are met. The number of scholarships awarded each year and the monetary amounts of each scholarship is determined by the amount of funding available.

The University has an NSF Bridge to Doctorate Grant to support underrepresented students to pursue terminal degrees in the STEM fields. In addition, the University recently was awarded the U.S. Department of Education's McNair Scholars Grant to increase Ph.D. degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society. A recent addition is the Diversity Post-Doctoral Fellowship to engage communities underrepresented in higher education.
