A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
SunCentral Lighting System
Okanagan College entered into a partnership with a company called SunCentral to pilot test a new solar lighting System. This was installed in our new ‘Center of Excellence’ building on our Penticton Campus. This is a revolutionary horizontal sunlighting solution that distributes full-spectrum, glare-free sunlight up to 50 feet within multi-storey buildings. The system outperforms traditional daylighting methods by delivering sunlight and LED light to previously inaccessible areas.
The SunCentral System feature ceiling beams integrated with a cantilevered canopy or an atrium, that capture and redirect sunlight on any side of the building, including the north side. Collimated beams of sunlight are transmitted through air to a collector where it is concentrated and piped into the building up to 50 feet through the hybrid luminaire. The Luminaire features integrated LED lighting that is automatically dimmed when sunlight is present.
