Ohio University Sustainability Committee
This Committee is an executive committee of Ohio University. The committee reviews, analyzes, prioritizes and recommends actions that will sustain the academic mission of Ohio University. The Provost, the Vice President for Finance and Administration, and the Vice President for Student Affairs chair the Committee jointly.
The Committee may review, analyze, prioritize and make recommendations on:
The Ohio University Sustainability and Climate Action Plans and revisions processes;
-The organization and operation of Ohio University Sustainability sub-committees and Sustainability Hubs;
-Annual Sustainability reporting, both internal and external;
-New or revised policies and practices concerning the sustainability themes of climate, water, energy, solid waste, food, grounds, buildings, transportation, procurement, investments, student life, and human resources;
-Evaluation of decisions, policies and practices through the sustainability triple bottom line framework of simultaneous benefits to the economy, the environment and society;
-Evaluation of sustainability grant and award proposals.
-Other items as needed.

A brief description of the activities and substantive accomplishments of the institution-wide coordinating body or officer during the previous three years:
Sustainability at Ohio University was restructured in 2018 and now includes three faculty affiliate and their three graduate assistants who lead "Sustainability Hubs", as well as a central office support core of director, associate director, 4-5 undergraduate students, and an executive Sustainability Committee which provides oversight for all sustainability activities (see description above). The Sustainability Hubs each have at least one signature initiative which include the Climate & Sustainability Ambassador program, the Sustainability Project Laboratory, the Triple Bottom Line Cost Benefit Analysis research group, the Farm to OHIO Working Group, the OHIO Student Farm, and the Green (Infrastructure) Initiative. The 2011 Sustainability Plan and 2012 Climate Action Plan were updated and revised into a recently approved (June 2021) Ohio University Sustainability & Climate Action Plan. Implementation is planned through the Hubs and through curricular and co-curricular experiential learning and workforce development projects housed in the Sustainability Project Laboratory.

The Director of Energy Management and Sustainability is responsible for successfully facilitating the implementation of all institutional sustainability commitments and priorities as well as energy/water management for Ohio University. This individual will provide strategic leadership for the Office of Sustainability and will play an advisory role to the University Sustainability Committee and the Sustainability Hub leadership. In addition, s/he will act as the energy/water manager for Ohio University and will be responsible for reducing campus energy use intensity, water use intensity, utility costs, and utility-based greenhouse gas emissions at Ohio University.
