A brief description of the institution’s green event certification program:
Ohio University has a green event certification program (https://www.ohio.edu/sustainability/get-involved/green-events). At least 5 events were formally registered into the system since May 2019, and we are working to communicate the importance of following the guidelines and registering green events to planners on campus. OU is working to revise and incentivize its green event program and has convened a Greening OHIO Working Group with representation from Event Services, Catering, Facilities, Campus Recycling, Student Services and more to better coordinate these groups on campus around policies, practices and messaging. Our revised edition of The OHIO Green Events Guide was published in Spring 2021 by these groups. The Guide addresses venue selection (including natural lighting venues), food and beverage choices (including local and lower carbon footprint choices), decorations, handouts, waste management, transportation, promotion/marketing, and event cleanup. Contact Elissa Welch at welche@ohio.edu with additional questions.
