A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
Several university employees from different offices around campus are voting members on the City of Athens Environment and Sustainability Commission. This commission works on a variety of projects including drafting a sustainability plan for the city.
Legal Counsel for Ohio University asks the Office of Sustainability if our office would like to issue a statement when local, regional, or federal policies or laws are proposed and could potentially impact sustainability on campus. If and when an issue is deemed appropriate for university comment to be made, the Office of Sustainability will do so if we feel our input will assist in the advancement of sustainability on campus.
