1st campaign
A brief description of the campaign:
We launched an initiative on campus in 2024 to include composting in our cafeterias. Employees onboarded were introduced to better recycling and composting techniques. Students were trained to host Waste stations and help their peers to sort and reduce waste. The cafeteria was encouraged to purchase compostable servware, our housekeeping custodians were trained to pull the new compost collections, and we added a new waste hauler. The public was engaged via a waste sort event where we collected and weighed the recycleables and compostables that ended up in our trash collections.
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
The campaign has had a very positive impact on our students and staff. Students are much more knowledgeable about waste, ask questions about sorting, and staff also have leanned into the green initiatives at our college because of this. The green committe group of staff have decided to take on the project for the coming years, Numerous students have been trained to be waste ambassadors, and there has been a significant reduction in food waste during our catered events. We have reduced food waste at our events by 100% by offering a composting service in the last two years.
if reporting an additional campaign, provide:
